The Lychee Spritz
Light, Floral, and a Little Unexpected
Some drinks are planned.
Others… happen because you’re standing in front of your home bar thinking: “Okay… what haven’t we tried yet?”
That’s exactly how the Lychee Spritz made its way onto our menu at Worthington’s Bar.
And honestly?
These are usually the ones that hit the hardest.
How the Lychee Spritz Made It Onto Our Spritz Month
From “What If?” to “Why Is This So Good?”
When we started building our spring spritz lineup, we didn’t want to just repeat the classics.
Of course, we had the staples:
- Aperol
- Limoncello
- Hugo
But that’s not really how we do things.
At some point, the process turned into opening cabinets, staring at bottles and asking “can this work in a spritz?”
That’s when we found the lychee liqueur.
Not something we used often.
Not something we bought with a plan.
But immediately, it had potential.
Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned:
👉 if it’s fruity, slightly sweet, and mixable… it probably works in a spritz.
The First Test: High Risk, High Reward
Let’s be honest, this one could’ve gone either way.
Lychee is:
- Floral
- Sweet
- Slightly perfumed
Which means it can be amazing or way too much.
There’s usually no middle ground.
So we kept it simple:
- 3 parts prosecco
- 2 parts lychee liqueur
- 1 part soda water
First sip? Immediate silence.
Then: “…okay wait, this is REALLY good.”
Why It Works (Better Than You’d Expect)
What makes the Lychee Spritz stand out is balance.
Because even though lychee leans sweet and floral, the structure of a spritz keeps it in check:
- Prosecco adds dryness and bubbles
- Soda water lifts everything and keeps it light
- Lychee liqueur brings that soft, exotic character
The result?
A drink that feels:
- Light
- Elegant
- Slightly unexpected
And just different enough to stand out from the rest of the lineup.
Garnish Reality vs Garnish Goals
When Seasonality Says “Not Today”
In a perfect world?
We’d garnish this with fresh lychee.
Because let’s be honest:
👉 it looks incredible
👉 it matches the flavor perfectly
👉 it turns the drink into a full moment
But…
Reality check:
Lychee isn’t exactly easy to find fresh (especially not year-round).
So we adapted.
🌿 The Mint Upgrade
Instead, we went with a simple sprig of fresh mint.
And honestly?
It worked better than expected.
It adds:
- A fresh, herbal aroma
- A crisp contrast to the sweetness
- A clean finish that keeps the drink from feeling too rich
It also gives the drink that “effortless but intentional” look.
Which is exactly what you want from a spritz.
💡 Garnish Tip
Don’t overthink it.
A great garnish should:
- Complement the drink
- Add aroma
- Look good without trying too hard
And sometimes? Simple > perfect.
Why This One Stuck
The Drinks You Don’t Plan Are Usually the Best Ones
Out of all the “let’s just try it” experiments we do behind the bar…
This is one of the few that instantly earned its place.
No tweaking.
No second guessing.
No “we’ll come back to it.”
Just: “Yep, this is staying.”
What Makes It Worth Coming Back To
The Lychee Spritz hits that perfect sweet spot:
- Easy to make → no complicated steps
- Unique but approachable → different, but not intimidating
- Visually clean and elegant → soft tones, fresh garnish
- Ridiculously drinkable → the dangerous kind
It’s the kind of drink people:
- Don’t expect
- Immediately love
- And then ask for again
When to Serve It
This is your go-to when you want something that feels just a little more special.
Perfect for:
- Brunch with a twist
- Garden parties
- Spring evenings
- Or when you want to surprise people with something new
It’s not loud.
It’s not flashy.
But it quietly steals the spotlight.
Worthington’s Bar Rule
If a drink makes you pause after the first sip and go: “Wait… why is this so good?”
You’ve found a keeper.
Flavor Profile – What to Expect
A Light, Floral Spritz That Feels Effortless
The Lychee Spritz isn’t loud.
It doesn’t hit you with bold bitterness or sharp citrus.
Instead? It eases you in.
And that’s exactly what makes it so addictive.
First Sip: Soft, Floral Sweetness
Right away, you’re met with that signature lychee character.
Think:
- Light, juicy sweetness
- Subtle floral notes
- A slightly exotic aroma
It’s not syrupy.
It’s not overpowering.
It’s soft, elegant, and immediately inviting.
This is the moment where people usually go: “Oh… this is different.”
Mid-Palate: Bubbles & Balance
Just when the lychee starts to settle in, the structure of the spritz kicks in.
The prosecco brings:
- Crisp acidity
- Light fruitiness (apple, pear, citrus notes)
- That essential sparkle
And the soda water? That’s what keeps everything lifted.
It:
- Prevents the drink from becoming too sweet
- Adds extra freshness
- Makes it feel light and drinkable
This is where the magic happens. Floral meets crisp → and everything balances out perfectly.
Finish: Clean, Fresh & Slightly Aromatic
The finish is what really defines this drink.
It’s:
- Light
- Clean
- Slightly floral
And if you’re using mint as garnish?
You get that subtle herbal lift right at the end, which refreshes your palate and pulls you right back in for another sip.
The Overall Experience
This is the kind of drink that:
- Feels light
- Tastes smooth
- Looks elegant
- And disappears faster than expected
It’s not a “one sip and done” cocktail.
It’s a: “we’re talking, the sun’s out, and suddenly my glass is empty again” kind of drink.

Lychee Spritz FAQ
Everything You Need to Know
What is a Lychee Spritz?
A Lychee Spritz is a light, refreshing cocktail made with lychee liqueur, prosecco, and soda water, following the classic 3-2-1 spritz ratio.
It’s:
- Floral
- Slightly sweet
- Crisp and bubbly
Think of it as a more delicate, exotic twist on a classic spritz like the Aperol Spritz.
What alcohol is used in a Lychee Spritz?
The main spirit is lychee liqueur. We used Giffard Lychee Liqueur combined with prosecco for bubbles and a splash of soda water.
You can use:
- Any lychee liqueur
- Any prosecco or dry sparkling wine
The key is balance, not brand.
Can I use something other than prosecco?
Yes! While prosecco keeps it true to Italian aperitivo style, you can substitute with:
- Cava (drier, more structured)
- Champagne (more complex, more premium)
- Any dry sparkling wine
Just avoid overly sweet options, the lychee already brings sweetness.
What’s the best garnish for a Lychee Spritz?
Ideally:
- Fresh lychee (if available)
But since that’s not always realistic, great alternatives are:
- Mint sprig (our go-to)
- Lime wheel
- Edible flowers (for a more elevated look)
Garnish matters more than you think, it adds aroma and visual appeal.
Can I make a Lychee Spritz less sweet?
Absolutely.
To balance the sweetness:
- Use a Brut (dry) prosecco
- Add a little extra soda water
- Reduce the liqueur slightly
Small tweaks make a big difference.
What glass should I use for a Lychee Spritz?
A large wine glass or balloon glass works best.
Why?
- More space for ice
- Better aroma
- More visual impact
And let’s be honest, it just looks better.
What’s the perfect spritz ratio?
The golden rule:
👉 3 parts prosecco
👉 2 parts liqueur
👉 1 part soda water
It’s simple, balanced, and works every time, not just for this drink, but for your entire spritz lineup.
Is a Lychee Spritz strong?
Not particularly, but it can sneak up on you.
Because it’s:
- Light
- Refreshing
- Easy to drink
It doesn’t feel strong…
until you’re already ordering another one.
